From The Shining to Hereditary: 7 of the Best Horror Films Recut as Comedies

Last month, we published a cute little roundup that featured 10 of the best horror movie ad spots from the ’70s to the ’90s—little 20- to 35-second made-for-TV tasters of some of your favorite horror films, lifted by our curatorial hands from the magical cornucopia of content that is YouTube. And as you may have already guessed, we’ve done something similar here but it’s also entirely different.

Instead of classic ad spots, we’re showcasing a trend that has been floating around YouTube for some time now—one that involves taking scenes from a video or film and recutting them together to suit a totally different genre. As you might imagine, plenty of talented editors and creators have dug their nails into the ripe world of horror films, picking their favorite spooks and reforming them into family friendly comedies or lighthearted love stories.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of seven of the best horror-film-turned-comedy videos that we could find. From classics like The Shining (1980) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) to modern record-breakers like It (2017) and Hereditary (2018), we’ve done our best to include a little something for everyone.

The Shining (1980)

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Hereditary (2018)

Get Out (2017)

It (2017)

Friday the 13th (1980)

The Wicker Man (2006)
