If it would surprise you to learn that five whole Leprechaun movies have been released since 1993, hold onto your hat because it’s a total lie. As I recently discovered, there have actually been eight entries to the Leprechaun franchise—and if that doesn’t horrify you as much as it horrifies me, you’re probably in for a real treat with the upcoming Leprechaun Returns.
Following the lead of Halloween (2018), Leprechaun Returns will serve as a direct sequel to the original film, with Linden Porco taking over for longtime series star Warwick Davis. While we were introduced to Porco’s take on the character with an original clip back in March, this new trailer gives us a better look at the actual film, which apparently includes sorority girls, selfies, questionable CGI, a dude getting his head stuck in a mailbox, and our old pal Mark Holton reprising his role as Ozzie 25 years later.
Directed by Steven Kostanski (The Void), Leprechaun Returns at least doesn’t seem to be taking itself too seriously. Following the dark and gritty 2014 reboot, Leprechaun: Origins, it is somehow comforting to see that lil rascal just having a great time killing folks. Check out the synopsis and trailer below, and let us know what you think in the comments.
The deadly, wisecracking Leprechaun is back in all his gory glory. When the sorority sisters of the Alpha Upsilon house decide to go green and use an old well as their water source, they unwittingly awaken a pint-sized, green-clad monster. The Leprechaun wants a pot of gold buried near the sorority house, but first, he must recover his powers with a killing spree—and only the girls of AU can stop him.
Leprechaun Returns will be released on Digital and On Demand on December 11, 2019.
