It’s been a little over five months since filming began on the seventh installment of the Child’s Play franchise and today we got our first official glimpse at Cult of Chucky. Written and directed by Don Mancini, the film will connect all eras of the long running franchise by uniting Curse of Chucky‘s Fiona Dourif with Child’s Play/Child’s Play 2 star Alex Vincent and Bride of Chucky/Seed of Chucky‘s Jennifer Tilly.
Curse was a welcome return to form for the series after a significant departure in tone, and it appears as though Cult will follow that path with a more serious and straightforward angle. Check out the synopsis and official red band trailer below.
Curse of Chucky star Fiona Dourif returns to reprise the role of Nica, who is confined to an asylum for the criminally insane, wrongly convinced that she — not the possessed doll Chucky murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new group therapy tool — a “Good Guy” doll — a string of grisly deaths plagues the asylum and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now grownup nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her, he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved (and, once again, Brad Dourif-voiced) devil doll, who is possessed by the spirit of serial killer, Charles Lee Ray.
Cult of Chucky will be released on unrated blu-ray, DVD, and digital October 3, 2017.
